Thanks to Anglian Water digging a smallish hole in Chicheley Road (which apparently required the complete closure of the road), we had to rearrange things for this evening's time trial. It's also a shame that the roadworks happened just weeks after the road was resurfaced! Our solution was to start and finish either side of the roadworks, though this reduced the race's distance to a shade over 9 miles. It also meant that the climb up to Astwood was about half way round rather than at the end. We had eight riders entered this evening, and all turned out.

Weather-wise, it was a pleasant evening, not nearly as hot as we've seen of late, but with quite a stiff wind that threatened to make the A422 section a bit hard.

In the end, I don't think any of us were particularly troubled by the wind on the A422. Congratulations to Leigh Smith for the win, followed in by Stuart Hall. Rob Saunders took the win on veteran standard. Our sympathies go out to Mark Kates, who went off course (but still finished). We have one more Astwood event to come, perhaps Mark can come back for more.

After we were all finished, we rode back yp to Astwood for rehydration at The Old Swan.

Many thanks to Dick Selley for timekeeping and sign placement and to Ian Stokes and Robert Saunders for various IT and event planning actions.
