About the North Bucks Road Club
The North Bucks Road Club was formed in 1952, after a meeting in the Wheatsheaf at Bow Brickhill. Frank Allcorn wrote a brief history of the club for the 40th anniversary, which was reprinted for the 50th anniversary dinner in 2002, and which can be read here . More recently, Derek Taylor has written and published a history of the club, priced £6 - contact Derek for further details. The club caters for all types of cycling, with members actively racing in time trials and in road races.
The Club Room
The club room is Harley Hall, a rather more modest structure than it sounds, located in Milton Keynes, near the intersection of Brickhill Street and Groveway. We use this as an HQ for some of our Club and Open time trials, and for regular Wednesday evening meetings.
Club Runs
Our club runs depart on Sunday mornings, usually around 9am from Harley Hall, near the junction between V10 (Brickhill Street) and H9 (Groveway) – see these maps. The destination of these runs is somewhat impromptu, and seems to depend upon who turns out, but usually includes a cafe stop. There is a faster, if somewhat irregularly organised, training ride for the road squad. Read some reports of club runs here.
Road Racing
We are affiliated to British Cycling. Even some of the hardened time triallists in the club have taken racing licences! Regular road races are held at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
Time Trialling
The club is affiliated to Cycling Time Trials, the Northants and District CA, North Middlesex and Hertfordshire CA and the Norlond Combine. The NBRC organise at least two open events each year, plus a series of club time trials mostly on Wednesday evenings. Here is a brief introduction to time trialling. Why not come along and give it a go?
